Semarang, 10-11th February 2023. The Doctoral Program of Public Health has successfully invited the Professors from South Korea to Semarang to attend the workshop and to initiate collaboration in research and education. Kangwon National University (KNU) and Chungbuk National University (CNU) are one of the leading higher educations in South Korea for research and education has welcome to collaborate with the Faculty of Public Health Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP). This event was held at the Doctoral program of Public Health meeting room. This event was started with the workshop for students and lecturers. Three speakers from South Korea presented their expertise in the workshop. Prof Han Jin-Hee, a molecular biologist from School of Medicine, Kangwon National University talked about “emerging natural infection of non-Laverania Plasmodium species: the novel tools to understand the malaria invasion biology”. Whilst, Prof Choe Seongjun, a parasitologist, from School of Medicine, Chungbuk National University talked about “the morphology and taxonomy of helminths and how it becomes public health threat in developing country”. Dr Jun Hojong, a parasitologist, from School of Medicine, Kangwon National University, gave a talk about “the methods for tropical disease vector research”. The workshop was set by hybrid method where the participants were joined online (zoom meets) and the speakers and representative of Faculty of Public Health were at the Doctoral program meeting room. The workshop run smoothly and was attended by more than 100 participants on zoom.
Through this opportunity, Dean of Faculty of Public Health, Associate Prof Dr. Budiyono emphasized the importance of collaborating with other universities from other countries in accelerating the research and improving the public health education curriculum. Dean said “this moment is a beginning of successful hits for the Faculty of Public Health UNDIP to be recognized globally and to fly higher to become one of the leading public health schools in Indonesia and worldwide”. Associate Prof. Dr. Bagoes Widjanarko has also emphasized that “Public Health students have to be more open-minded with technology in understanding the complex of public health issues and how the research in public health is becoming rapidly improved, combining the public health social approach and molecular biology”.
On day two of this event, Faculty of Public Health represented by the Dean, vice deans, head of departments, and head of doctoral program together with Prof Han Jin-Hee and Prof Choe Seongjun discussed about the potential to collaborate in research and education. The discussion has come to agreement in collaborating on vector-borne disease and parasitology research, providing an opportunity for students to continue the postgraduate studies, exchanging technology and resources, delivering lectures and becoming adjunct for professor within the Faculty of Public Health UNDIP. And, the agreement has been proven by signing-off the implementation of agreement by Dean of Faculty of Public Health UNDIP, Prof Han Jin-Hee KNU, and Prof Choe Seongjun, CNU.
